About the Course

This unique course will provide you with essential knowledge needed to help prepare you for the unexpected.

The online course consists of 1 module that must be completed within 6 months. The module consists of text, charts and pictures to help with your learning. Following completion of the course content, there are 10 multiple choice questions which must be passed with a score of 70% or above.

On successful completion of the module you will be rewarded with a Certificate in ‘Maritime Emergency Preparation and Response’.

Ian started sailing with his father at the age of 12 and as a result went to sea upon finishing school. He sailed worldwide for 13 years on a range of commercial ships and spent his leave sailing yachts around the UK and in the Mediterranean. Throughout this time Ian studied for his commercial qualifications and he passed his Class 1 Masters Certificate in 1984.

Subsequently Ian was recruited by Shell International Marine whereupon he returned to University to take an Honours degree course in Naval Architecture working in the new building and survey departments during university holiday periods. On completion of the degree Ian was sent to Japan for new building experience. Following this he went on to take a Masters degree in Business Management.

Ian began his own marine surveying and consultancy business in 1992. Since that time he has attended numerous shipyards throughout the world for new building, ship repair and ship conversion including extended periods in both Singapore (Jurong) and Dubai (Dubai World) together with dockings in Mexico, Romania, Turkey, China, Bulgaria, Greece, UK, Germany, France, Egypt, Malta, Bahamas, Poland,Spain and Portugal. Ian has been involved in investigating numerous ship casualties including collisions, groundings and fires.
