The Monaco Yacht Show is an iconic feature of this Principality’s coastline. The Super yacht world is one which many can only dream of becoming part of, but for these three days yacht owners, future super yacht purchasers or charterers and important decision-makers in the yachting and luxury industries, all attend this show in Port Hercules.

With extraordinary yachts on display and 40 new launches unveiled in their world-wide debut, this really is the place to be for those in the maritime industry. Beth, Matt and Andrew attended this year’s show and were able to meet new clients, generate business and see both existing and new students in action. Putting faces to names was an incredibly important factor for MTA and our students.

The highlights

Managing to set foot onto a 60m+ Yacht through one of our Superyacht Surveying students! This was a huge eye opener into the interior of a yacht and to see how the ‘other side’ live. Across the three days, meetings were great, and we were able to speak to one of our big new clients, which was a real bonus. Overall, it was extremely successful for generating new leads and maintaining relationships with current clients. Of course, the Red Arrows, who performed on the Thursday, is always a major highlight.

The MTA Stand

We had visitors who didn’t have appointment slots, but heard we were there and wanted to come say hello and talk about our courses. We reached the audience of not only individuals but also Managing Directors and Crew Managers of big yachting companies looking for multiple sales and future business. The Superyacht Management and Refit & Newbuild were the most popular courses for us to sell out there, which was due to the demographic and their needs. We definitely benefited from finding great contacts and business both new and old.

What did we learn?

One of our previous Superyacht Project Management Refit & Newbuild students said the ‘course material was very detailed and feels like he has already gained invaluable information’. We also received amazing feedback from the biggest yacht management/refit companies saying that they know our name and we are the only training provider they would use and will continue to use, which was a real boost for us and a cause for celebration.

We also discovered that Stars N Bars is the place to be after the show, which was great fun and also a great opportunity to bump into familiar faces we had previously met in the show. When in Monaco…

Top tips for the yachting future

Monaco is definitely the place to be, we also found that some clients were heading to Genoa and Fort Lauderdale for the yacht shows out there.

The 2018 MYS was a success and proved to us that we need to be there every year to show our faces, meet new clients and experience the life which so many of our students want to be part of; allowing us to better tailor our courses and advice to those seeking a maritime career in the SuperYacht industry.
